Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Members are elected from each of the five supervisory districts.  The Board of Supervisors has the tasks of guiding and establishing policies for the complex multi-million dollar enterprise of county government.  Members of the board of supervisors make decisions that directly impact economic development, public health and welfare and county roads.

The Office of the Board of Supervisors schedules the times of the meetings of the Board.

Board Meetings

Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. They are held on the 3rd floor of the new courthouse at 9:00 a.m.

TO APPEAR BEFORE THE BOARD

If you wish to appear before the Board of Supervisors to discuss an important matter, please notify the Chancery Clerk at (601) -636-4415 no later than 12:00 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to a scheduled meeting. If you come to a meeting and are not on the formal agenda, you may still have the opportunity to address the board, but you may have to wait until all other agenda items have been addressed.

Any backup information, and/or exhibits pertaining to the matter you wish to discuss must be delivered to the Board Office by the same deadline.

FORMAL (OFFICIAL) AGENDAS

The “official agenda” is a brief listing of matters discussed and acted upon by the Board of Supervisors at each meeting. This is compiled by the Chancery Clerks Office and may be used as a research tool in order to locate specific Board actions.
